Push

I'm sure you've read something on this site that refers to the fact that many movies that come out this time of year are not good. This is one of those movies. Push is a super-hero movie that includes action and cool special effect like most others. The plot was simple, two people venture out to take down an evil organization that wants to use people with powers as weapons. The plot is a little confusing and they don't do a good job of explaining things in the movie. However, what ruins this movie is the fact that the so called super heroes, are not heroes to anyone other than themselves. True heroes care for all people and are willing to sacrifice their lives for the greater good. All these people fight to save their own lives and in no way suggest that they will use their gifts to help other people. To them, the greater good consists of them surviving and being safe. In this movie, they took advantage of others and/or made them commit suicide which is rather disturbing in some scenes. All this builds up in the movie and at the end you realize that they aren't so super at all. So what things did we learn about in this movie? Deceit, revenge, tyranny, and selfishness. Not very heroic huh? 5 out of 10.

Taken

This is the time of the year when movies usually suck. However, there are some movies that come around that remind me that I don't have to go through three months of bad movies and no, it isn't Friday the 13th. Taken is a prefect example of a movie that shines bright above all the other movies that come out at this time of year. Taken is an action flick that shows you the meaning of pain. In the movie, Bryan(Liam Neeson) takes an early retirement from the CIA to be able to spend more time with his daughter. When the daughter flies with her friend to Paris, she gets kidnapped and Bryan, with his CIA training, takes it into his own hands to rescue her. In this movie it seemed that the plot was not as important as the action. The plot line was simply Liam Neeson killing people to save his daughter from prostitution. Even with the thin plot, the action didn't disappoint. This was a really fun movie. 7 out of 10.
